The picture on the right above dates prior to the First World War and features Burke Lodge The Virtual Business School (White Building) prominently on the right . The sixteenth century building was once The Crown Public House.   The black gates (original) were once the entrance to the courtyard for stage-coaches. Much of the Tudor timber-work remains behind the eighteenth century facade and there are traces of medieval painting within.

Claude Duval the notorious Highwayman is said to have spent his time drinking, laughing and generally having a good time at The Crown (so nothing has changed that much!)
